Biddy Healey is a composer, singer, cellist and cavaquinho player, and writer from Melbourne, based in New York. Her music inhabits the spaces between jazz, folk and contemporary classical music. It is genre-bending, energetic and sophisticated and rhythmically charged. Her art pop band Odie Ida, released its debut EP in Melbourne in June 2016 (available on bandcamp).
Biddy graduated with a Bachelor of Music in 2016 from the Victorian College of the Arts, with awards including the 2015 John Gaitskell Memorial Mensa Prize, the 2015 Phillip Law Scholarship for Innovation, and the 2014 Marion Thomas Award for Jazz Performance. She has studied cavaquinho and percussion in Brazil, and shamisen in Japan, and is a veteran performer of Europe's cathedrals.
By day, Biddy is an education researcher and is studying toward a masters in education policy at Columbia University.
